Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior official stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
