Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the group reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
